Let’s Learn from the African American Civil Rights Movement

Beyond Disability

I am frustrated.  When I pose the question, “What three things can the disability sector work on collectively to improve and enhance the human rights of people with disabilities.” I only hear synopses of the following:

“Every disability is different.”

“There are already laws in place to secure human rights for people with disabilities.”

“Even within a disability, there are varying degrees of need.”

“My organization xxx is far better than larger organizations.  We do xxx.”

“We need to find a cure.”

“Why are people wasting resources and offending me by looking for a cure.”

So once again, I pose the question–, how do we move forward collectively?
